Refuge Trek
2026
The Refuge Trek is operating Saturdays and Sundays through November 22, 2026. There are two trips each day, the first trip is 10:30 am and the second trip is 1:30 pm. Tickets can be purchased at the Nature Store inside the Bateman Visitor Center. Tickets are $20 and are NON-REFUNDABLE.
Lighthouse Climb
The lighthouse is open to climb every Saturday from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm until November 21, 2026. Last climbe is at 3:30 pm.
Parking is available on the right side of Beach Road just after entering the refuge. Visitors who need parking near the base of the lighthouse can use the road just pass the lighthouse parking lot.
CNHA Bookstore
The CNHA Bookstore is open Monday through Sunday 10 AM – 3:30 PM. Please call (757) 336-3696 for more information. Begining October 16, 2026 we will begin our reduced fall and winter hours. During our Fall and Winter hours we will be open Friday through Monday until Spring.

Directions: Route US-13 runs north/south along the Eastern Shore. Take 13 to route VA-175 east. Follow 175 for approximately 10 miles onto Chincoteague Island, continue straight across the island to Assateauge Island where you will find Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge.
(Yes, it’s confusing. Google Maps or Mapquest will route you across Chincoteague Island to our location on Assateague Island Virgina – not to be confused with Assateague Island Maryland)
